Liviu Matei is a professor of higher education policy and the Provost of Central European University (CEU). He directs CEU’s Yehuda Elkana Center for Higher Education. CEU is an international university dedicated to promoting open society and democracy through high-level research, research-based teaching, and civic commitment. It enrolls students from over 100 countries. Liviu Matei has extended experience in teaching, university administration, and in research and policy advising in higher education. He taught at universities in Europe, the United States, and Asia. He works as a higher education expert or consultant for universities, national governments, and international inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations, in particular in the areas of higher education governance, funding, and internationalization. In 2014 he served as the general rapporteur of the second edition of the Bologna Researchers’ Conference.
